International - Operation Sumatra

Golden day raises $23,400

CHARITY

GOLDEN Tuesday, a Defence tsunami appeal for the Red Cross, has raised over $23,400.

The event – held on February 1 across Defence locations – was the idea of Squadron Leader Lisa Macnaughtan, of the Logistic Support Agency at Air Force Headquarters.

“It was unbelievable what we were able to achieve across Defence in one week,” she said.

“Within minutes of the DEFGRAM being posted I had several people volunteering their services here in Canberra and indications that most bases were going to come onboard.”

CDF General Peter Cosgrove and Secretary Ric Smith were among those to help collect the gold coin donations.

SQNLDR Macnaughtan said she thought the day was a tangible way for Defence people to support the efforts of those deployed in affected areas.

“The response has been excellent ... Thank you so much to everyone who contributed.”
