ADF
involvement in Australia’s humanitarian mission in earthquake-ravaged
Nias Island is winding down. Defence Minister Robert Hill has
announced that assistance will now progress to a repair and reconstruction
phase with Australian aid provided through civilian agencies.
The ADF’s contribution during Operation Sumatra II comprised HMAS
Kanimbla, three Air Force transport aircraft, aviation support
crews, Army medical personnel and logistic specialists.
The ADF’s crash investigation team will remain in Indonesia to
continue its investigations into the cause of the Sea King accident.
