Assistant Minister for Defence Stuart Robert MP today visited the Australian Army's 7th Brigade at Gallipoli Barracks, Enoggera, Brisbane, meeting some of the Brigade's 3,500 strong workforce and touring new and developing infrastructure projects around the base.
Mr Robert started the day by joining Infantry soldiers from the 6th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (6RAR) for a demanding physical training session, before meeting with the Commander of the 7th Brigade, Brigadier Greg Bilton, headquarters staff and wounded, injured and ill soldiers at the Soldier Recovery Centre.
“This morning I have experienced just a little of what the men and women of the 7th Brigade put in to their training and their work every day,” Mr Robert said.
“The 7th Brigade is one of the Army’s largest concentrations of soldiers and represents a diverse range of talents and capabilities from infantry, combat engineers and cavalry, to signallers, logisticians, transport and health support services.
“I was particularly heartened to see first hand the Army’s specialised rehabilitation facilities and programmes and the supportive environment in which Army care for wounded, injured and ill soldiers.”
Mr Robert’s tour of Gallipoli Barracks also included visiting the latest developments in the $900m infrastructure project currently underway at the base.
“It is always a pleasure to have our government ministers take an active interest in our people and our workplace,” Brigadier Bilton said.
“Having met with personnel of the 7th Brigade this morning, I am sure Mr Robert will agree we have the right people for the job.
“Today’s visit was also an opportunity to highlight the current infrastructure project, which on completion will ensure we also have the right facilities.”
Mr Robert’s visit to the 7th Brigade is his first as Assistant Minister for Defence.
