Mr Mark Sullivan has been appointed as the Chair of the Defence Honours and Awards Appeals Tribunal, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence, Darren Chester, announced today.

“Mr Sullivan is well known and well respected throughout the veterans’ community and brings extensive experience to the role of Chair of the Defence Honours and Awards Appeals Tribunal,” Mr Chester said.

“I also wish to congratulate Brigadier Mark Bornholt (Ret’d); Mr Richard Rowe; Ms Naida Isenberg; the Hon Peter Lindsay; and Brigadier Kevin O’Brien (Ret’d) on their appointments as tribunal board members.”

Mr Sullivan said he was looking forward to commencing work with the Tribunal.

“This is an enormous opportunity to continue serving our veterans and serving defence force members,” Mr Sullivan said.

The Tribunal is an independent body that provides and important avenue for review and appeal of Defence honours and awards decisions.

The Tribunal commenced operation as a statutory body in 2011 and consists of a chair and ten board members who are appointed by the relevant Minister for a period of three years.

Mr Sullivan has previously held positions as the Secretary of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, Secretary of the Department of Family and Community Services, President of the Repatriation Commission and Chair of the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission.
