The Australian Defence Force continues to support Queensland Emergency Management officials with post-disaster assessment and recovery following the passage of Cyclone Marcia through Yeppoon and Rockhampton.

Approximately 19 Australian Army Reservists from a Rockhampton-based 11 Brigade unit continued with debris removal tasks conducted yesterday and have commenced clean-up tasks at Yeppoon State High School, under Defence Aid to the Civil Community arrangements.

A small team of engineers from the 3rd Combat Engineer Regiment in Townsville have also deployed to Rockhampton and are working with local council officials and emergency service personnel with an assessment of damage to enable the Commander 3rd Brigade to provide appropriate resources, if requested by Queensland Emergency Management officials.

Two Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) planes, an AP-3C Orion maritime patrol aircraft and a KA350 King Air conducted wide area surveillance of cities, towns, infrastructure and roads on Saturday (21 February, 2015) for the Queensland emergency management officials.

Defence stands ready to support Australian communities affected by natural disasters and our thoughts are with those who have been affected by the cyclones and the resulting damage.
