The Assistant Minister for Defence, Stuart Robert, today met with Army personnel at the Army School of Transport and the Combined Arms Training Centre during a visit to the Puckapunyal Military Area in Victoria.

During his visit Mr Robert received briefings from senior personnel and met ADF Gap Year participants who are currently completing their Initial Employment Training at the School of Transport.

While touring the facilities Mr Robert praised the work of staff and highlighted the growing importance training bases have to the ongoing development of Army personnel.

“Personnel from Army’s training establishments play a vital role in the development of the Australian Army’s future workforce,” Mr Robert said.

“The soldiers of tomorrow will need to be evermore adaptable, technologically savvy and trained in an ever increasing number of specialist fields.

“The knowledge, expertise and skills imparted to the next generation of soldiers by Army’s professional training staff will place the next generation of soldiers in good stead throughout their Army career.

“Today I saw this first hand with some of the ADF’s young and bright Gap Year participants. The training they have done during their time here not only prepares them for the next stage of their Army journey, it gives them a solid foundation for life.”

Puckapunyal Military Area is one of the Australian Army’s major training locations and is home to the Army School of Armour, Army School of Artillery, Army School of Transport and the Combined Arms Training Centre.
