Launching major airfield works at RAAF Base Gingin

WA’s RAAF Base Gingin will receive $7.7 million for maintenance works to its airfield, supporting Australian Defence Force (ADF) capability while maximising opportunities for local businesses.  

Fulton Hogan Industries Pty Ltd has been awarded the contract to undertake aircraft pavement and aeronautical ground lighting works at the military airfield.

The construction workforce is predicted to peak at about 80 personnel per day, creating a range of opportunities for local businesses.

Minister for Defence Industry Melissa Price said this was the third works package to be delivered under the $149 million National Airfields Capital Works Project, which was ensuring the ADF can continue to meet its operational requirements.

“The airfield maintenance works at RAAF Base Gingin will ensure the airfield is fit for purpose at all times to enable military aircraft to continue to operate safely and effectively,” Minister Price said.

“The project will provide a welcome boost to the WA economy and maximise opportunities for local businesses to be involved.  

 “Under the Defence Policy for Industry Participation, Fulton Hogan is committed to awarding at least 75 per cent of the subcontract packages to local businesses.

“Fulton Hogan is also committed to employing a 6 per cent Indigenous workforce and awarding 6 per cent of the contract value to Indigenous companies.”

RAAF Base Gingin is a military airfield located about 55km north of Perth and is used primarily for pilot training activities.

The first and second works packages under the National Airfields Capital Works Project have been completed at Army Aviation Centre Oakey, Queensland and RAAF Base East Sale, Victoria.

RAAF Base Gingin airfield works will start in May and end in September.
