The Morrison Government has delivered a jobs boost to the Northern Territory, with an Indigenous construction company awarded a $107.8 million contract to deliver facilities at a RAAF bombing range.

Minister for Defence Industry Melissa Price said the contract with Tiwi Partners Pty Ltd for works at Delamere Air Weapon Range would support 150 jobs during the project’s construction phase.

In a major win for local businesses, 80 per cent of the sub-contracted work will go to local industry.

“This is great news for the Northern Territory’s defence industry and for the broader NT economy,” Minister Price said.

“Delamere Air Weapons Range is an enduring site for Defence, providing significant training capability for our Air Force.

“This project will support the Growler Airborne Electronic Attack capability, including demolishing the old facility and constructing three new Mobile Emitter Site Mounds.

“The Morrison Government has brought forward funding for this project to provide much needed additional stimulus to the Northern Territory construction sector during this COVID-affected time.”

The project will improve supporting infrastructure and ensure Delamere continues to be able to provide the required capability to Air Force.

Work on the project will start in late September and is expected to finish by June next year.
