Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, today welcomed the latest of the Future Submarine Program Industry Days to Hobart, Tasmania.
The $50 billion investment in the program will see Australia’s Future Submarines built in Australia, by Australians. The Australian build is expected to generate an annual average of around 2800 jobs over the life of the Future Submarine Program.
Minister Pyne said these high-level forums are of vital importance in maximising Australian industry involvement in the construction and sustainment of the submarine fleet into the future, creating job opportunities across Australia.
“Today, Defence officials from the Future Submarine Program and representatives from Naval Group and Lockheed Martin Australia will brief industry in Tasmania on how they can contribute to this historic program,” Minister Pyne said.
“This is a great opportunity for the Defence Industry in Hobart and more broadly across Tasmania to get involved in the Future Submarine Program, a key part of our $89 billion continuous shipbuilding program”.
“The industry days which have already visited Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth, have attracted more than 1,400 attendees from Australian companies, research and development institutions and educational organisations.”
Industry days will continue across Australia throughout 2017, with the next planned for Sydney in October.
