DURING a two day visit to Darwin, Minister for Defence Personnel Michael McCormack said he was pleased to meet with Navy, Army and Air Force personnel.
“This was my first opportunity as Minister for Defence Personnel to meet with Darwin’s dedicated soldiers, sailors, Airmen and Women” Mr McCormack said.
“I was pleased to be hosted by the 1st Brigade’s Commander and Regimental Sergeant Major and to see first hand the important work being conducted by our troops at Robertson Barracks.
“Speaking directly with soldiers has given me a unique insight into matters which are most important to the great men and women serving our nation.”
The visit also included a tour of the Robertson Barracks Family Group Centre and the Soldier Recovery Centre.
“It is great to see the rolling upgrades being made on the ADF’s Darwin facilities. This Government is committed to providing the ADF with world class eupiment and facilities to ensure they can continue to do their job effectively” Mr McCormack said.
“The Soldier Recovery Centre in particular is an excellent initiative in keeping our wounded, injured or ill personnel in service or supporting them as they transition to civilian life.
“The recovery centres also located in Townsville and Brisbane, are an essential component of the dedicated system supporting people throughout their Defence careers.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank all of those men and women who serve with dedication and distinction in our Defence force including the fine people I have met in recent days here in Darwin.”
While in Darwin Mr McCormack also attended commemoration activities marking the 76th anniversary of the bombing of Darwin on 19 February 1942.
