Minister for Defence Personnel Dan Tehan today paid tribute to Secretary of Defence Dennis Richardson AO who will retire on 12 May.

Mr Tehan said Mr Richardson had made an enormous contribution to Australia over his 48-year career in the public service.

“Dennis has earned a reputation for the professionalism, integrity and intellect he brought to his various roles in the public service,” Mr Tehan said.

“As Secretary of Defence, Dennis understood there is no more important job for Government than keeping its people safe.

“It was a job he fulfilled with passion and rigour and Australians have been able to sleep more soundly at night with Dennis in charge of the Department of Defence.

“I would like to thank Dennis and his family on behalf of the Australian people who have benefited from his service and wish them all the best for the future.”
