Minister for Defence Personnel Dan Tehan said improved transition services for Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel had been rolled out across the country after successful pilot programs. In March, Mr Tehan announced individual career coaching services would be trialed at Townsville, Holsworthy and Adelaide bases. “ADF Transition Coaches are helping ADF personnel develop tailored career plans based on their unique skills, interests and career aspirations,” Mr Tehan said.

Minister for Defence Personnel Dan Tehan has paid tribute to the Australian Defence Force personnel who have volunteered their time to mentor a group of talented Tiwi Island young women ahead of a national AFL competition this week. Members of the Australian Defence Force Australian Rules (ADFAR) Women’s Indigenous team, the Guyala Seahawks, will mentor and assist 12 young women aged 15 to 16 in the lead up to the Bendigo Koori AFL carnival from 15-16 October 2016.

Today, 294 of the Australian Defence Force’s newest officers graduated from the Australian Defence Force Academy. Navy, Army and Air Force trainee officers took to the ADFA Parade Ground for the final time to mark the culmination of their three years at the Academy. Minister for Defence, the Hon Peter Dutton MP, said he was proud of the trainee officers’ efforts to maintain high standards of achievement in military and university studies during what has been a difficult time for all Australians.

296 midshipmen and officer cadets have graduated as junior officers in the Australian Defence Force today, taking part in an historic Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) Graduation Parade. It was the first time that six squadrons had participated in a graduation parade, making it one of the biggest in the history of ADFA.

Technology using a pure sapphire crystal to accurately measure time has taken out the 2018 Defence Science and Technology (DST) Eureka Prize for Outstanding Science in Safeguarding Australia. Minister for Defence, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, today congratulated Professor Andre Luiten and his team from the University of Adelaide on developing the sapphire clock, a device so accurate it can keep time within one second over tens of millions of years.

Today the Albanese Government was pleased to handover a new Guardian-class Patrol Boat, the HMTSS Te Mataili III, to Prime Minister of Tuvalu, the Hon Feleti Teo OBE. The delivery of the vessel follows the elevation of the security partnership between Australia and Tuvalu under the Falepili Union. The vessel will strengthen Tuvalu’s capability to protect its critical maritime resources.

Defence has selected Raytheon Australia to act as its Australian Aegis Systems Integration Agent. Defence has issued a Limited Request for Tender to Raytheon to establish a Deed of Standing Offer under which Raytheon Australia will provide Aegis combat system integration support for up to six years. Minister for Defence, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, said that the United States Navy’s proven Aegis combat management system, which is already fitted to the Hobart Class Destroyers, will be fitted to the Hunter Class Frigates as well.

The Albanese Government has appointed the Hon Justice Ruth McColl AO as the Afghanistan Inquiry Compensation Advocate. The Inspector-General of the Australian Defence Force Afghanistan Inquiry report contained 15 recommendations to pay compensation to victims, and their families, where there was credible information involving allegations of property damage, assault or unlawful killing, by ADF members on operations in Afghanistan during the period 2005-2016, without awaiting the establishment of criminal liability.

Today the Chief of the Defence Force spoke publicly about the Inspector-General of the Australian Defence Force(IGADF) Afghanistan Inquiry report findings regarding alleged misconduct by Australian Special Forces on operations in Afghanistan between 2005 and 2016. The Chief of the Defence Force also publicly released a version of the Afghanistan Inquiry report, parts of which have been redacted for legal and privacy reasons. The IGADF Afghanistan Inquiry, established at the request of the Chief of the Defence Force in 2016, has been complex, extensive and lengthy.

A partnership between Boeing Defence Australia and Defence will create more highly-skilled jobs in Brisbane, Adelaide and Williamtown. The $170 million contract signed today will continue the Vigilare System, which is being renamed “Wakulda”. The local indigenous Worimi people in the Williamtown region have endorsed a proposal to use the name, which means ‘together’, in honour of the revitalised agreement. Wakulda fuses data from radars and other sensors to support the Royal Australian Air Force’s national air defence command and control functions.

AUSTRALIAN Air Force Cadets will benefit from arrival of eight Diamond DA40 NG light aircraft to help them with their flight training. Minister for Defence Personnel Darren Chester made the announcement today at the Australian International Airshow 2019 at Avalon. Mr Chester said the fleet of Diamond aircraft introduced a modern aircraft for training and would inspire young Australians to pursue a career in aviation. “I am pleased to announce the leasing of eight aircraft for exclusive use by Australian Air Force Cadets,” Mr Chester said.
